ChatGPT for OpenCart — manage your catalog and orders through conversation
Check product availability, find an order or set a new base price with a natural-language message in ChatGPT. The module connects OpenCart to your chat and provides tools for a store owner's everyday tasks.
You decide which actions are available: retrieving information only, or updating data as well. Set up the connection in the OpenCart administration panel using the hosted MCP server. No terminal commands or self-hosted integration server are needed.
What you can do
- Work with your catalog. Search products, read their details, check base prices and stock quantities, and browse categories, manufacturers and reference data.
- Keep track of orders. Retrieve order lists, review their contents and statuses, and request store statistics.
- Find customers. Search customer records when the administrator has enabled customer read access.
- Update products. Change the base price, quantity, status, model and SKU when write access is enabled.
- Manage orders. Change order statuses and, in OpenCart 3.x, prepare and create guest orders.
- Use multiple stores. Link store connections to one profile and specify the store you want to work with in your message.
- Review action history. Find operations in the audit log and roll back supported changes using saved snapshots.
- Enable tools for specialists. Separately authorize PHP execution and SQL operations.
The settings interface is available in Russian, Ukrainian and English. The server checks permissions on every request: a chat prompt cannot override a restriction set by the administrator.
What you need
- An OpenCart installation with the 2.3 or 3.x structure. Guest order creation is supported in the 3.x branch. OpenCart 4.x requires separate adaptation.
- PHP 7.4 or later, the cURL, ctype and OpenSSL extensions, and a writable OpenCart storage directory.
- A public HTTPS store URL and hosting that allows requests to and from the MCP server.
- A ChatGPT account with access to custom MCP server connections.
Compatibility with custom builds and third-party extensions must be checked separately. You do not need to enter a separate OpenAI API key in the module to use it through ChatGPT.
Installation and setup in OpenCart
- Back up your store files and database.
- Upload the .ocmod.zip archive through Extensions → Installer.
- If necessary, refresh modifications and clear the template cache.
- Go to Extensions → Extensions, select Modules and install WB OpenCart — ChatGPT.
- Open the settings. If access is denied, grant your user group Access and Modify permissions for extension/module/wb_chatgpt.
- Turn on Enable integration, then select the OpenCart storefront to connect and Data language.
- Select the permitted operations and click Save.
- Enter https://chatgpt.torg.town in MCP server URL. In the administration panel, the URL must not include /mcp.
- Fill in Owner login and Connected shop name.
- Enter a separate Connection password containing at least 24 characters. Keep it for signing in later. Use your integration profile password rather than your OpenCart administrator password.
- For your first store, select Create a new owner profile. If a profile already exists, use its credentials.
- Click Connect, then Check connection. The message “Connection is working.” confirms a successful check.
To connect another website, install the module there and use the same owner profile. Each storefront within one OpenCart installation is also connected separately: select it in the settings, enter its name and repeat the connection process.
Connecting to ChatGPT
Open ChatGPT in your browser. The option to add an MCP server depends on your account's access and workspace policies.
- Go to Plugins, click + / Add and select Add custom MCP server.
- Name the connection Opencart.
- Enter https://chatgpt.torg.town/mcp. Unlike the URL in the OpenCart settings, this address must include /mcp.
- Select OAuth authentication, review the access notice and click Create as a plugin.
- On the server's sign-in page, enter the owner login and connection password from the module settings.
- Once the tools have loaded, install the plugin if the interface offers an additional installation button.
- Start a new chat, type @, select Opencart and ask for the list of connected stores.
If the required option is missing, check feature availability for your account and your workspace permissions. In an organization workspace, you may need help from an administrator. Button names depend on the ChatGPT interface language and version.
How to write requests
Include the store, the action and, where necessary, the product or order ID in your message. For example:
- “Which stores are available to my profile?”
- “Find MacBook Air in demo1.torg.town. Show its ID, base price and stock quantity.”
- “Show the five latest orders in demo1.torg.town and open the newest one.”
- “In demo1.torg.town, set the base price of product ID 43 to 999. Read the price before updating it and verify it afterwards.”
- “Find the price change you just made in the audit log and restore the previous value.”
When several stores are connected, the store name helps identify the correct shop_id. If a request is ambiguous, clarify the store and product first.
Prices, storefronts and rollback
Product lookups and searches return the base price. The customer's price may differ because of special offers, customer-group discounts, taxes or additional modules.
In standard OpenCart multistore, a product's base price, stock quantity and status are shared across its storefronts in the same database. Updating these fields affects all corresponding storefronts. Module permissions also apply to connections within the same installation.
Rollback is available for supported changes when a valid snapshot exists. It is not a universal way to undo PHP execution, database schema changes or order events. Use snapshots alongside a full store backup.
